"Scope Ring Alignment" |

|
Scope alignment rods make installing scopes easier for a more accurate rifle and scope. Scope alignment kits usually consist of two 1-inch or 30mm diameter by 4-1/2-inch long steel rods, pointed to 60 degrees. Clamp one alignment rod in each scope ring as you would the scope. The rods can be tightened up in the scope rings with the points facing each other over the center of the action. You should perform scope ring alignment as soon as the scope bases and rings are mounted.
If you run into an issue where the rod points are not aligned then you may have a scope strain problem. This means that the scope rings are out of alignment despite normal adjustments using the windage adjustment or ring position adjustment, depending on the type of scope mounts. Mechanical adjustment can be made to remedy scope strain through lapping, using the lapping rod and handle with the lapping compound. Slight alterations can be made to the rear or front, or the left or right side, of the scope bases. Finally, when the two center points of the scope alignment rods match perfectly, you have the scope rings in alignment for a simple, precise scope installation. Please see The Wheeler Engineering Mounting Kit for more information.
